Last Saturday I participated in a book fair at the GT Library. What a wonderful experience! I’d never done one before so didn’t know what to expect.
The book fair was in aid of LIFE (Literacy is for everyone) along with bringing attention to the old GT library and the library’s plans for the future. I was blown away by the number of books that people donated and how many people showed up to show their support to the community library and LIFE.
I sold three of my books (all proceeds went to LIFE). Thank you Shirley, Juliet, and Roy. I chatted with people I’d known for years and some I’d never officially met. More people signed up for my writing group, CayWriters and even my newsletter (YAY!) I even had a wonderful conversation about historical fiction and heard the story of a bra discovered in Medieval Times. How many people can say that? 🙂
I also made great connections with people from the local libraries, some of whom want to add my book to their library (WIPEE!) and was asked to do a reading by LIFE. The best part of the entire book fair was the overwhelming support for local authors and future ideas to connect them with the community.
It was a great day that left me filled with excitement, hope, and the endless possibilities for local authors in Cayman. Here are photos from the event.
I love hearing from you. HOW DO YOU SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL LIBRARY AND/OR LOCAL AUTHORS?
Congratulations on very successful day! I want to hear about the medieval bra story!
Sounds like it was most productive and glad to know our group is expanding!
I did have an idea about all of us as a panel going to the schools to speak to students as kind of a round table session. What do you think?
Once again- I salute our fearless leader!
I might have to kill you if I tell you the bra story, Lorraine. LOL.
I like that idea! We can run it past LIFE. Right now they’re focusing on getting authors to do readings. I haven’t heard back since emailing them.
Thanks for the salute, but it’s all thanks to you guys. You keep me on my toes. 🙂
Book fairs can be wonderful places to network. Glad you had a good day.
You’re so right, Shirley! It was a great day! Thanks for stopping by.
